WHY HIRE A BOARD CERTIFIED ATTORNEY?

MARK OF EXCELLENCE
The Supreme Court of Texas established the Texas Board of Legal Specialization (“TBLS”) to “promote the availability, accessibility and quality of the services of attorneys to the public in particular areas of the law . . . and to advance the standards of the legal profession.” The TBLS has a process for certifying lawyers as specialists in 21 different areas of law.

Personal injury is one of those areas of specialty. The Board Certification process is tough and thorough with strict, yearly ongoing requirements to maintain familiarization with current trends in law. Franz Law Group attorney John David Franz is a board certified personal injury attorney by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Another specialty area is Criminal Law. Demetrio Duarte, Jr. serves as “Of Counsel” to Franz Law Group. Mr. Duarte is board certified in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Board Certification is a mark of excellence and a distinguishing accomplishment. Within the Texas legal community, Board Certification means an attorney has substantial, relevant experience in a select field of law as well as demonstrated, and tested, special competence in that area of law. Put that experience to work for you when you call on the Franz Law Group.
According to the State Bar of Texas, there are more than 110,000 licensed attorneys in Texas. A little more than 1,000 are Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law. Approximately 950 are Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

The certification process is voluntary and can only take place after an attorney passes through a rigorous process in a specialty area. An attorney who is Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization must have handled jury trials dealing with types in the specialized legal area.

The board certified attorney must also have extensive knowledge of the law of evidence, procedure, and other substantive law involved in presenting a case before a jury in the area of law in which he specializes.
To become Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law, an attorney must have:
Been licensed to practice law for at least five years
Attended personal injury trial law continuing education seminars regularly to keep legal training up to date
Devoted a required percentage of practice to personal injury trial law for at least three years
Been evaluated by fellow lawyers and judges
Handled a wide variety of personal injury trial law matters to demonstrate experience and involvement
Passed a day-long written examination
Moreover, Board Certification is not a one-time event. It requires an ongoing involvement in the specialty area which is periodically substantiated with references from peers in that field. It also requires annual professional refreshment through TBLS approved, continuing legal education course work to stay abreast of current trends in law.
